Cypress Lakes Golf Resort – Additional Local Rules
(To be read in conjunction with the JNJG & GNSW Local Rules Hard Card and the Rules of Golf as adopted by the R&A)
Any Local Rules displayed on the clubs’ local rules board or as printed on the club’s scorecard are to be disregarded for this event.
- OUT OF BOUNDS (Rule 18)
- All areas outside the boundary of the property as defined by the inside points, at ground level, of the perimeter fence.
- Beyond the inside points, at ground level, of any line of white stakes with black tops.
- Beyond the black fence bordering the resort pool area.
- PENALTY AREAS (Rule 17)
- Red Penalty Areas are identified by red stakes, lines or plates.
- Where a Penalty Area is marked with both stakes and painted lines, the stake identifies the penalty area while the line defines the penalty area.
- IMMOVABLE OBSTRUCTIONS (Rule 16)
- All stakes defining GUR, Penalty Areas & Distance Markers.
- All artificially surfaced roads & paths
- ABNORMAL COURSE CONDITION (Rule 16)
- Areas encircled by white paint, marked as dots, broken lines, unbroken lines or white stakes and / or Ground Under Repair signage.
- Areas in bunkers where sand has been removed by the movement of water resulting in deep furrows through the sand.
- In Bunkers, Damage that is clearly identifiable as having been caused by animals is ground under repair from which free relief is allowed under Rule 16.1c
- Areas of bare earth on parts of the General Area cut to fairway height or less, not including divots.
- Areas of bare earth on the 11th putting green.
- TREES & SHRUBS
- In the General Area, staked trees are no play zones and are ground under repair (the GUR includes any stakes and/or protective guards. Relief MUST be taken in accordance with 16.1b
- IMMOVABLE OBSTRUCTIONS (EG SPRINKLER HEADS) CLOSE TO PUTTING GREENS – LINE OF PLAY INTERFERENCE
- Rule 16.1b applies to immovable obstructions close to putting greens. In addition to the types of interference described in Rule 16.1a, interference also exists if an immovable obstruction is: on the player’s line of play, and is within two club-lengths of the putting green, and is within two club-lengths of the ball. (Exception – There is no relief under this Local Rule if the player chooses a line of play that is clearly unreasonable.)
- ABNORMAL COURSE CONDITION – NO PLAY ZONE (Rule 16.1f)
- During the play of the 9th Hole, areas of freshly laid turf on the right hand side of the hole just short of the greenside bunkers are no play zones that are to be treated as an abnormal course conditions. Free relief MUST be taken from interference by the no play zone. As an additional relief option players may drop the original ball or another ball in the dropping zone identified by the white stake with a blue top. The margin of the dropping zone is defined as two club-lengths in any direction from the drop zone stake.
- 8th HOLE RED PENALTY AREA
- During the play of the 8th hole, when it is known or virtually certain that a ball has come to rest in a Red Penalty area at the rear of the 8th green the player may:
- Take penalty relief under Rule 17.1, or
- As an additional option, for one penalty stroke, drop the original ball or another ball in the dropping zone identified by the white stake with a blue top. The margin of the dropping zone is defined as two club-lengths in any direction from the drop zone stake.
- During the play of the 8th hole, when it is known or virtually certain that a ball has come to rest in a Red Penalty area at the rear of the 8th green the player may:
- 17th HOLE CART PATH ADJACENT TO PUTTING GREEN
- During the play of the 17th hole, when a players ball comes to rest on the cart path between the 2 blue lines painted on the edge of the cart path, as an additional relief option the player may drop a ball in the dropping zone identified by the white stake with a blue top (on the very back tee of the 18th hole). The margin of the dropping zone is defined as two club-lengths in any direction from the drop zone stake.
UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED, THE PENALTY FOR BREACH OF A LOCAL RULE IS THE GENERAL PENALTY:

DROPPING ZONES (indicated by white With Blue Tops “dropping” stakes)
- When the player is using a dropping zone, the ball must be dropped in the dropping zone and it must come to rest in the dropping zone.
Cypress Lakes Golf Resort – Tournament Information
- Tournament Office and Scorecard Return
- Prior to the round, players must report to the Tournament Office to collect their scorecard, local rules and pin sheets, a minimum of 20 mins before their allocated tee time.
- A player’s scorecard is deemed officially returned to the Tournament Committee at the completion of the round when the player has left the tournament office. Once the player has left the tournament office, no changes may be made to the scorecard.
- On Course Live Scoring / Pace of Play Checkpoint
- At the completion of Holes 3, 6, 9, 12, 15 and 18, all players must verbally enter their scores with the JNJG Scoring Official, located at the back of the green. These scores are for live scoring purposes only and changes can be made to the entered scores at the completion of the round, prior to returning the scorecard.
- The Live Scoring Volunteers will also be monitoring Pace of Play and notifying Rules Officials immediately should a group fall behind.

- In the case of a player being unable to gain assistance from one of the numbers above, the player may proceed in accordance with the procedure outlined in Rule 20.1c(3) of the Rules of Golf and nominate to play a second ball. The player must report the facts of the situation to the Committee before returning the scorecard, even if the player scores the same with both balls.

Make sure you keep up with the group in front, carry and use a sand bucket to replace divots, and fix all pitch marks on the greens. Let’s leave the course in the same condition as when we arrived!!
